Join us at the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center tomorrow, August 17, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. as the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary presents new posters detailing the organization’s recent projects. PDE Science Director Dr. Danielle Kreeger will be on hand to discuss the projects, which include freshwater mussel recovery in southeastern Pennsylvania streams, oyster reef restoration in the Delaware Bay, planting native vegetation, and creating “living shorelines” to protect marshes from erosion.
The return of freshwater mussels to Pennsylvania streams is an encouraging sign for our ecosystem. Pictured above is a freshwater pearl mussel on a 2002 postage stamp from Germany.
