Funded largely through a $242,000 SMIP grant from PWD, the project won the Public Project Award at the 2016\u00a0Excellence\u00a0in\u00a0GSI\u00a0Awards\u00a0ceremony. <em>Credit: PWD<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4>What projects and people are making an impact on green stormwater infrastructure in our region?<\/h4>\n<p>Last year saw the first-ever <strong>Excellence in GSI Awards<\/strong>, an effort by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbnphiladelphia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Business Network<\/a>&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/gsipartners.sbnphiladelphia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Partners<\/a> to answer that question and highlight the best in local green stormwater projects and the people making them happen.<\/p>\n<p>The Philadelphia Water Dept. was honored to have associations with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillywatersheds.org\/gsi-excellence-awards-showcase-philly-silicon-valley-green-infrastructure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two of 2016&#39;s five award winners<\/a>: retired PWD Commissioner Howard Neukrug took home the inaugural <a href=\"http:\/\/gsipartners.sbnphiladelphia.org\/howard-neukrug-to-receive-leadership-award-at-the-inaugural-excellence-in-gsi-awards-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leadership in GSI Award<\/a> for his role in guiding the creation of the City&#39;s 25-year <em><a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/what_were_doing\/documents_and_data\/cso_long_term_control_plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green City, Clean Waters<\/a><\/em> program, and West Philadelphia&#39;s Lea Elementary received the <a href=\"http:\/\/gsipartners.sbnphiladelphia.org\/public-project-finalists-announced\/#lea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public Project Award<\/a> for green schoolyard renovations made with the help of a PWD <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/wu\/stormwater\/Pages\/Grants.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stormwater Management Incentives Program<\/a> (SMIP) grant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SBN and GSI Partners are <a href=\"http:\/\/gsipartners.sbnphiladelphia.org\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently seeking nominations<\/a> for 2017<\/strong>, and the deadline to submit a completed nomination form is <strong>Friday January 27<\/strong>. The awards ceremony will be held Thursday May 11 at the Fringe Arts building in Old City.
