Hayman as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyH2O?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PhillyH2O<\/a> new commissioner: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VixDxMyiDC\">https:\/\/t.co\/VixDxMyiDC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 oTIS Philadelphia (@PhillyOTIS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyOTIS\/status\/1128291405971877889?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 14, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>A veteran of the water utility industry, he will take the reins from <a href=\"https:\/\/pwddev.wpengine.com\/blog\/acting-commissioner-named\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acting Commissioner Sarah Stevenson<\/a> starting this June. Stevenson is leading our Department through the transition and took the helm at PWD following <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/334687370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Debra McCarty&#39;s April retirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hayman is a partner at the environmental Washington, DC law firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bdlaw.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beveridge &#038; Diamond<\/a> and previously served as general counsel at two major water utilities\u2014DC Water and Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Kenney,<\/strong> working closely with the City\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/departments\/managing-directors-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Managing Director Office<\/a> and <strong>Deputy Commissioner of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Sustainability Michael Carroll,<\/strong>\u00a0made this leadership decision after a thorough national search that recognized the important work our 2,000 employees do every day\u2014<strong>providing Philadelphia\u2019s 1.5+ million residents with clean water and protecting our waterways.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hayman will also help guide the important infrastructure investments that we\u2019ll be highlighting during <strong>Infrastructure Week 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given that Philadelphia has approximately <strong>3,100 miles of water mains<\/strong>, <strong>3,700 miles of sewers<\/strong>, <strong>79,000 inlets<\/strong>, <strong>25,000 fire hydrants<\/strong> and various pumping stations throughout the city, it\u2019s an important and challenging job.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stay tuned to learn more about his plans and priorities!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><a class=\"btn btn-lg btn-primary white bold\" href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/leadership-news-may-2019\" style=\"white-space: inherit;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the Full Mayor&#39;s Office Announcement<\/a><\/h5>\n<h2>Why Follow Infrastructure Week?<\/h2>\n<p>We know: <strong>our customers have busy lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"side-info half right accentblue-bg\" style=\"margin-top: .25em;\">\n<h4 class=\"black\">PWD&#39;s National Infrastructure Week Partners<\/h4>\n<p class=\"darkgray\">As members of the <a class=\"semibold darkblue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thevalueofwater.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Value of Water Coalition<\/a>, the <a class=\"semibold darkblue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nacwa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Association for Clean Water Agencies<\/a> (NACWA), and the <a class=\"semibold darkblue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.awwa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Water Works Association<\/a>&#39;s <a class=\"semibold darkblue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dep.pa.gov\/Business\/Water\/BureauSafeDrinkingWater\/Partnership\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Partnership for Safe Water,<\/a> we are joining a national campaign to highlight the water side of <strong>Infrastructure Week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>But, even if you\u2019re the kind of person who&#39;s happy as long as clean water comes out of the tap and the dirty water goes away, we hope some of these <strong>amazing photos<\/strong> and <strong>impressive stats and stories<\/strong> will leave you with a better appreciation of what it takes to run a modern water utility.<\/p>\n<p>We have a diverse portfolio of infrastructure investments that play a <strong>crucial role in making our city run<\/strong>, and\u00a0this is <strong>your invitation<\/strong> to explore some of the projects Philadelphia residents (and their water bills) make possible.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>First up:<\/strong> We\u2019ll take a look at highlights from our recently completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/wu\/Documents\/PWD_DrinkingWaterMasterPlan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drinking Water Master Plan<\/a>.<\/h3>\n<p>A <strong>25-year, $2.5 billion<\/strong> strategic vision for upgrading and expanding Philadelphia\u2019s <strong>core drinking water infrastructure<\/strong> and protecting the top-quality water we depend on well into the next century, the <a class=\"semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/wu\/Documents\/PWD_DrinkingWaterMasterPlan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drinking Water Master Plan<\/a> embodies Infrastructure Week\u2019s theme: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BuildForTomorrow?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Build for Tomorrow. Starting Now.<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In fact, the plan\u2019s guiding principles\u2014<em><strong>Building reliable infrastructure for today. Investing for a resilient tomorrow<\/strong><\/em>\u2014perfectly align with that call to action, and we\u2019ve already begun work on some <strong>major projects.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One such project involves installing massive new water mains that will make our treatment plants more resilient and help <strong>ensure reliable service:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Water mains 10-feet in diameter are being installed underground.
