{"id":1272,"date":"2022-12-01T16:00:56","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T21:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/?p=1272"},"modified":"2022-12-05T19:04:48","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T00:04:48","slug":"apply-pahaf-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/apply-pahaf-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s Not Too Late to Apply for State Grants for Water Bill Help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"big\">Over the last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/2022-05-31-avoid-a-water-shutoff-new-protection-policies-and-expanded-assistance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">we have been working hard<\/a> with our partners across City government to prevent shutoffs and connect Philadelphia Water Department customers with an unprecedented level of financial support from the state and federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Through the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.pa.gov\/Services\/Assistance\/Pages\/LIHWAP.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LIHWAP<\/a>) alone, Philadelphia water customers received <strong>nearly $13 million<\/strong> to pay off old bills as of October 2022. Created by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.pa.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pa. Department of Human Services<\/a> using federal funds to help people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, LIHWAP was a temporary program and just recently stopped accepting applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But that doesn&#8217;t mean there isn&#8217;t still some state funding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For customers with utility bill debt who didn\u2019t get funds from LIHWAP, there may still be help available through another state program called the <a href=\"https:\/\/pahaf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pa. Homeowner\u00a0Assistance Fund<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/pahaf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PAHAF<\/a>. Designed for homeowners, PAHAF can help with mortgage and tax debts as well as utility bills for qualifying customers. As of December 1, 2022, they were still accepting applications and had raised the cap of funds available per household.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udce2The Pa.
