June 13 Update:<\/strong> Boil Water Advisory Lifted for All Parts of West Phila. Learn more \u2192<\/a><\/big><\/div>\n

The Philadelphia Water Department is issuing a boil water advisory<\/a> for parts of upper West Philadelphia effective immediately. This includes customers who lost water or had low pressure in any area identified\u00a0in this map<\/a>.<\/strong><\/big><\/p>\n

Customers\u00a0in an area notified that there is a boil water advisory\u00a0should not drink the water without boiling it first until further notice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These instructions are for water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing formula.<\/p>\n

  1. Bring water to a rolling boil.<\/li>\n
  2. Let it boil for one minute.<\/li>\n
  3. Let the water cool before using.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What We’re Doing<\/h3>\n

    We restored pressure to the system on Sunday, June 11,\u00a0and are flushing the system thoroughly. We are sampling finished water for the presence of coliform bacteria. We anticipate resolving the problem by June 13, 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Why a Boil Water Advisory Is Needed<\/h3>\n

    Between approximately 3:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on June 11, 2023, a pumping station serving a section of upper West Philadelphia failed. This caused a loss of pressure in the system and left some customers without water. Water pressure is being restored, but customers should not use the water without boiling.<\/p>\n

    Out of caution, customers in this part of the city are being informed that they should boil water before using it for drinking.<\/p>\n

    This is because a lack of pressure can create a vacuum that could pull disease-causing organisms such as bacteria into water pipes.<\/p>\n
