{"id":566,"date":"2014-12-12T14:25:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-12T19:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/stanleys-hardware-named-first-stormwater-pioneer\/"},"modified":"2022-12-03T13:41:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T18:41:15","slug":"stanleys-hardware-named-first-stormwater-pioneer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/stanleys-hardware-named-first-stormwater-pioneer\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanley&rsquo;s Hardware Named First Stormwater Pioneer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"253\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/114366626\" width=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t get a chance very often in life to be a pioneer at anything,\u201d noted Stanley\u2019s True Value Hardware President Mark Jaconski, who with his brother Joe was honored as Philadelphia\u2019s first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillywatersheds.org\/stormwaterpioneers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stormwater Pioneer<\/a>. \u201cOur father and grandfather pioneered the business.\u00a0 We\u2019re just doing our part to help the environment,\u201d he explained, as dozens of customers, employees, neighbors, Philadelphia Water Department executives, City Council representatives and community members applauded their efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Stanley\u2019s Hardware was recognized for excellence in stormwater management and the site will be a model for business owners and private developers who want to reduce runoff from their properties. PWD and the Jackonskis unveiled a Stormwater Pioneers plaque for the property and the brothers were presented with a City Council Citation by Josh Cohen of Councilman Curtis Jones\u2019 office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony, covered by both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsworks.org\/index.php\/nw-philadelphia-more-stories\/item\/75595-roxborough-family-hardware-store-honored-for-work-in-stormwater-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsworks<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montgomerynews.com\/articles\/2014\/11\/27\/roxborough_review\/news\/doc546fd46148b2a526773491.txt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roxborough Review of Montgomery Media<\/a>, also recognized Ruggiero Plante Land Design in Manayunk for designing the stormwater management strategy. It includes a highly-visible rain garden adjacent to the store\u2019s parking lot and two underground infiltration basins. Together, the system manages over 3,000 cubic feet of runoff.<\/p>\n<p>The Jaconski brothers built a new store on the site of their family\u2019s 66-year old business, tripling its size and doubling both the business and the staff.
