A few days ago we stumbled upon the video above created by local filmmaker <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/hopcam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jon Graham<\/a>\u00a0<em>(Sorry, this content is no longer available)\u00a0<\/em>and it\u2019s so cool that we had to share! Seeing people enjoy the Schuylkill River\u2014strolling on the new 2,000 foot long Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk, skating at Paine\u2019s Park, waterskiing, boating, kayaking and more\u2014is very gratifying. At PWD, we\u2019re proud of the role we played in helping to make 2014 such a successful year for our rivers, our water and our city. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s our own Schuylkill River being named <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/schuylkill-making-waves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania\u2019s 2014 River of the Year<\/a> or seeing the endangered\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/endangered-shortnose-sturgeon-returns-schuylkill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortnose sturgeon return to the Schuylkill<\/a>, 2014 was a tremendously successful year for the health of our rivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We were fortunate to be a part of a great collaboration with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Manayunk community that resulted in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/venice-island-opening\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opening of the Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center<\/a>. This project showed how green storm water infrastructure and a PWD stormwater storage basin unit can be seamlessly interwoven into a great neighborhood and citywide amenity. We also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillywatersheds.org\/stanleys-hardware-named-first-stormwater-pioneer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">named our first Stormwater Pioneer<\/a>\u00a0and gave\u00a0$8.25 million to businesses for green stormwater management practices on private property through our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/wu\/stormwater\/Pages\/Grants.aspx\">SMIP and GARP<\/a> programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And we\u2019re especially proud of <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/green-city-clean-waters-wins-planning-excellence-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">award<\/a>\u00a0after <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/pwd-engineers-win-watershed-milestone-awards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">award<\/a> after\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/pwd-wins-epa-award-turning-poop-power\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">award<\/a>\u00a0being brought home by many of PWD\u2019s staff. And we have to give a shout out to our <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/meet-2014-philadelphia-spokesdog-winners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2014 Philadelphia Water Department Spokesdog Winners<\/a> who help us reduce the amount of pet waste that ends up in our rivers!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As we look ahead to 2015 (here\u2019s our spin on the common resolutions to eat better and exercise more), we suggest you resolve to:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Get outside and experience <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillywatersheds.org\/your_watershed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">every single one of the city\u2019s waterways <\/a><\/strong>and the great things to do on their banks. Whether it\u2019s waterskiing or kayaking on the Schuylkill or running and biking alongside it; taking in another pop-up park along the Delaware; or hiking along the Wissahickon, Pennypack, Poquessing, Cobbs, Tookany\/Tacony-Frankford, you\u2019ll get exercise and relieve stress by being near the water. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Drink tap water! <\/strong>Philadelphia\u2019s drinking water continues to be among the nation\u2019s cleanest, safest and most reliable. We resolve to continue that in 2015 so you can resolve to get your 8 glasses (at least!) per day and at an affordable cost. The cost of 50 glasses of water here in Philadelphia is less than a penny!<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.
