Credit: Waterways Restoration Team,<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ever see some serious trash\u2014we\u2019re talking tires, shopping carts, and yes, even cars\u2014in a stream and wonder who on earth will ever have the muscle to get it out? That would be Philadelphia Water\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/category\/blog-tags\/stream-restoration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Waterways Restoration Team<\/a>\u00a0(WRT), a hard working branch of the department that takes on the aforementioned litter and does things like restore creek banks that have been degraded by erosion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important work that doesn\u2019t just restore the beauty of our waterways, but helps to preserve the quality of the water we drink. The <a href=\"http:\/\/ttfwatershed.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tookany\/Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership<\/a> (TTFWP), an important group in our watershed stewardship efforts, is honoring the Waterways Restoration Team with their \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/ttfwatershed.org\/2015\/05\/08\/meet-milestone-honorees-watershed-municipal-leader-corporate-steward-legacy-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Municipal Leader Award<\/a>\u201d at an event marking their 10th anniversary tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/watershed-milestones-award-ceremony-reception-tickets-16632841276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watershed Milestones<\/a>,\u201d<em>(Sorry, this content is no longer available)<\/em>\u00a0the celebration will feature Philadelphia Water Commissioner Howard Neukrug and pays tribute to the various groups and people who have worked to improve and preserve the quality of the watershed\u2019s 30 square miles beginning in Montgomery County and ending at the base of the Betsy Ross Bridge on the Delaware. In addition to regular volunteer cleanups that complement WRT work, TTFWP has helped Philadelphia Water to conduct litter studies, done important work to <a href=\"http:\/\/ttfwatershed.org\/2014\/09\/05\/mussels-hello-tacony-creek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">document and seed freshwater mussels<\/a> in the creek, and organizes Tacony Creek Park nature walks, to name just a few of their activities.<\/p>\n<p>Those who wish to support the group can get tickets for the event, to be held at the Globe Dye Works building in the Frankford neighborhood starting at 5:30 p.m.,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/watershed-milestones-award-ceremony-reception-tickets-16632841276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by clicking here<\/a>.<em>(Sorry, this content is no longer available)<\/em>\u00a0Proceeds will go toward outreach, education, and restoration efforts.
