{"id":67,"date":"2018-06-13T17:56:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T21:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/2018-water-quality-report-released\/"},"modified":"2022-12-03T11:51:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T16:51:13","slug":"2018-water-quality-report-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/2018-water-quality-report-released\/","title":{"rendered":"New Report on Philadelphia Drinking Water Quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"big\">Our latest <a href=\"http:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/2017-water-quality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drinking Water Quality Report<\/a> is now <a href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/2017-water-quality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available online here<\/a> and can also be requested in the mail by <a href=\"mailto:waterquality@phila.gov\">contacting us here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Based on data collected by our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/wu\/drinkingwater\/quality\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bureau of Laboratory Services<\/a> throughout 2017, the annual report details test results showing that <strong>Philadelphia\u2019s drinking water meets or is better than all state and federal water quality standards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#39;s pretty important, considering approximately<strong> 1.6 million people <\/strong>like you access our water at the tap every single day.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure people around the country can drink their local tap water with confidence, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ccr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requires water utilities like ours<\/a> to publish water quality testing results.<\/p>\n<p>The report is produced by our team of experienced scientists and engineers, the very people who test Philly drinking water for nearly 100 compounds thousands of times each month.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A photo of a scientist in a white lab coat, rubber gloves, and safety glasses uses a machine to test a water sample.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/static\/1763.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThanks to <strong>continuous treatment, testing, and monitoring,<\/strong> the water that leaves our treatment plants is better than what is required by the EPA,\u201d says <strong>Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner Debra\u00a0McCarty<\/strong>. \u201cThis report explains what we look for, and what we found. Water is one of life\u2019s essential resources, and we hope you take the time to look at all the information in the report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to tables listing testing results, the 23-page report offers information about many topics, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Home plumbing maintenance and habits that can make water safer<\/li>\n<li>Instructions to check for lead plumbing and programs that can help<\/li>\n<li>An update on <em>Green City, Clean Water<\/em>s green infrastructure progress<\/li>\n<li>Programs and operations that preserve and protect our drinking water sources\u2014the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><a class=\"caption right third\" href=\"http:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/2017-water-quality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/static\/cover.jpg\" \/><\/a>Getting and sharing the report<\/h4>\n<p>You can read and download copies of the report <a href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/2017-water-quality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on our website<\/a>. Copies can also be requested via mail by calling 215.685.6300 or by emailing <a href=\"mailto:waterquality@phila.gov\">waterquality@phila.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Residents\u00a0are encouraged to share the report with others, especially those who may not have received a notice directly, such as people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses.
