Gets Lots of Water Data to Play With"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/static\/water_gsi_map.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">This map, viewable on the City of Philadelphia&rsquo;s website, shows green infrastructure locations and was made using similar data sets.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In anticipation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codeforphilly.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Code for Philly<\/a>&#8216;s Oct. 16-18\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.appsforphilly.org\/events\/sustainability-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apps for Philly Sustainability<\/a>\u201d<em>(Sorry, this content is no longer available)<\/em>\u00a0meet-up, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia Water<\/a> and other City agencies released tons of data for the super-tech savvy crowd to tinker with.<\/p>\n<p>Our hope is this creative community of app-building enthusiasts will come up with new tools that help Philadelphia understand and appreciate, among other things, the breadth of green infrastructure projects being designed and implemented through the <a href=\"http:\/\/phillywatersheds.org\/what_were_doing\/documents_and_data\/cso_long_term_control_plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green City, Clean Waters<\/a> program.<\/p>\n<p>Using the data we\u2019ve collected and shared, they can conceive fun and engaging ways for people explore things like green infrastructure locations, how much rain is falling in different parts of the city, and how the topic of customer phone calls varies from neighborhood to neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/phillyinnovates.com\/2015\/10\/15\/crash-data-oodles-of-water-data-released-for-sustainability-hackathon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PhillyInnovates<\/a>, a blog by the City&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/mdo\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Managing Director\u2019s Office<\/a>, just published this helpful list of the data sets Philadelphia Water released today:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul style=\"background: #ffffff; This data release joins a growing list of more than 240 open data sets that help inform citizens and strengthen trust in government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mary Ellen McCarty, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/it\/aboutus\/units\/Pages\/GISServicesGroup.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GIS<\/a> Specialist in Philadelphia Water\u2019s Office of Watersheds who worked to provide the data, thinks this information will help residents on a community level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see value in the public learning about projects planned in their neighborhood,\u201d says McCarty. \u201cWe are currently working on a project to publish a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillywatersheds.org\/BigGreenMap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Green Map<\/a> 2.0, with more information.
