After several successful steering committee meetings and a December 2018\u00a0public open house\u00a0that allowed community members to weigh in on streetscape options for Cottman Avenue, the latest draft of the concept plan is complete and ready for review:<\/strong><\/p>\n

When:<\/span> Tuesday, July, 23 2019\u00a0<\/strong>from 4:30 p.m. \u2013 7:30\u00a0p.m.<\/p>\n

Where:<\/span> Northeast Regional Library<\/strong> 2228 Cottman Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19149<\/a><\/p>\n

Details:<\/span> There will be no formal presentation, just come to the lower level meeting room anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> Light refreshments will be provided. Cottman Avenue is served by the SEPTA Route 70 bus.<\/p>\n

The changes are designed to make the corridor greener, brighter, and safer and are made possible through a big investment from the City of Philadelphia. New lighting, bus shelters, sidewalk bump-outs, curb ramps, stormwater infrastructure, traffic signals, and landscaping<\/strong> are all in the plan.<\/p>\n

The City is improving streets in a way that improves traffic and safety under the Vision Zero goals<\/a><\/strong> while also boosting environmental conditions and economic opportunities.<\/p>\n

The Cottman Avenue\u00a0concept plan is being finalized soon and the public is encouraged to attend and provide their input.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those who live near or work on Cottman between the Roosevelt Boulevard and Castor Avenue are encouraged to attend an upcoming open house to preview exciting upgrades coming to the corridor.<\/p>\n

About the Project<\/h3>\n

The Cottman Avenue Streetscape project effort grew out of the Philadelphia2035: Central Northeast District Plan<\/em><\/a>,<\/strong> itself the result of community forums held locally over four years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The project is being managed by the Streets Department<\/a> and is funded by the\u00a0Commerce Department<\/a>,\u00a0<\/p>\n

PWD will be improving local stormwater management and adding landscaped green tools to the area as part of the Philadelphia Water Department\u2019s Green City, Clean Waters<\/a><\/strong><\/em> investments.<\/p>\n

PWD green stormwater infrastructure projects are also underway in Wissinoming, Castor Gardens, Oxford Circle, and Holmesburg.<\/p>\n

On Cottman Avenue, PWD is developing a series of new green tools that will soak up more than a quarter-million gallons of runoff during a 1-inch rainstorm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Privately owned lots along the avenue are also getting greened as PWD works with store owners and others to fund sustainable stormwater improvements through our Stormwater Management Incentives Program (SMIP).<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
