{"id":825,"date":"2020-09-25T15:28:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-25T19:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/delaware-riverfest-2020\/"},"modified":"2022-12-03T11:31:19","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T16:31:19","slug":"delaware-riverfest-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/delaware-riverfest-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Delaware River Festival: Safe Family Fun!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"big\">Like almost every <strong>2020 gathering<\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delawareriverfest.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual Delaware River Festival<\/a><\/strong>, a \u201ccoast-to-coast\u201d celebration centering around water-themed activities, will look a little different this year.<\/p>\n<p>But, river enthusiasts still have opportunities to explore the Delaware \u2014 <strong>online and on the water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong>Saturday, September 26 to Sunday, October 4<\/strong>, Delaware River Festival 2020 will feature <strong>virtual and small in-person<\/strong> experiences on both sides of the waterbody, including kayak trips, scavenger hunts, nature walks, panel discussions, educational lessons, kite flying, and tons more <strong>free, safe family fun<\/strong> activities!<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed video center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"400\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDelawareEstuary%2Fvideos%2F1081797022274837%2F&#038;show_text=0&#038;width=700\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This is a special year for the Delaware: <a class=\"semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americanrivers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Rivers<\/a> named it <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanrivers.org\/2020\/04\/river-of-the-year-for-2020-the-delaware-river\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">River of the Year<\/a><\/strong> in April. Flowing roughly <strong>400 miles<\/strong> from New York to Delaware, the mammoth waterway is basking in <strong>national recognition!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The spotlight is on a powerful chain reaction: <strong>restoration<\/strong> efforts that led to <strong>water quality gains<\/strong> which, in turn, fueled a <strong>revitalized community<\/strong> built around what the river has to offer. A great primer to Delaware comeback is American Rivers\u2019 <strong>interactive <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/4f8b7c5cf5db49a59360f4cfcd7f2a78\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Story Map<\/a><\/strong> of the river.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed video center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/407412048\" title=\"vimeo-player\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>For us, applauding the <strong>Delaware is in our DNA<\/strong> \u2014 the river supplies drinking water to nearly <strong>15 million people<\/strong> from New York City on down, including <a class=\"semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/pwddev.wpengine.com\/blog\/2020-infraweek-torresdale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>60 percent<\/strong> of Philadelphia\u2019s water supply<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been participating in the yearly festival since its inception <strong>three years ago<\/strong>. Last year, you might have seen our <a class=\"semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/philadelphiawater\/albums\/72157710991934223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signature Philly Water Bar<\/a> hydrating attendees outside of the <a class=\"semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyseaport.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independence Seaport Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\"><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/philadelphiawater\/albums\/72157710991934223\" title=\"2019 Delaware River Festival\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2019 Delaware River Festival\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48765892008_7686fcafb1.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Though our <a href=\"https:\/\/pwddev.wpengine.com\/blog\/water-bar-one-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Water Bar<\/a> is on hiatus due to COVID-19, we\u2019ve found new ways to take part in the 2020 Delaware River Festival!
