We treated hundreds of millions of gallons of wastewater with plants running nonstop despite <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/covid-19-wipes-litter-clogging\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new pandemic challenges<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0like a surge in flushed wipes that clog pumps.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"602\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FPhillyH2O%2Fposts%2F4259226947436875&#038;width=500&#038;show_text=true&#038;height=602&#038;appId\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>We were awarded a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/2020-infraweek-torresdale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$73M low-cost loan for a drinking water facility upgrade<\/a><\/strong> that will serve residents for generations.\u00a0With COVID-19 budget impacts potentially postponing many projects outlined in our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/water-master-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drinking Water Master Plan<\/a><\/strong>, the funds come at an especially timely moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">ICYMI: Our Torresdale pumping station, a workhorse responsible for delivering nearly 1\/4 of Philly&#39;s water, is getting its biggest upgrade ever. How this investment letting us <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RebuildBetter?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RebuildBetter<\/a>\u27a1\ufe0f<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5MFuuZtmWQ\">https:\/\/t.co\/5MFuuZtmWQ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Pq5ZEVzDnT\">pic.twitter.com\/Pq5ZEVzDnT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Philadelphia Water (@PhillyH2O) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyH2O\/status\/1308126070613344257?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>We picked up the phone nearly<strong> <em>half a million<\/em> times<\/strong> when you needed us and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyH2O\/status\/1342198614270087172?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increased customer service<\/a><\/strong> on social media.<\/p>\n<p>We offered <strong>more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/drops\/assistance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help for those in need<\/a><\/strong>, stopped\u00a0shutoffs, and worked to restore water to approximately <strong><em>15,000 homes<\/em> <\/strong>as tens of thousands of families here suddenly found themselves unable to pay bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"410\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FPhillyH2O%2Fphotos%2Fa.545632442129696%2F5214319588594268%2F&#038;width=500&#038;show_text=true&#038;height=410&#038;appId\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>We repaired the infrastructure that keeps this city running, upgrading sewers on approximately <strong>67 city blocks<\/strong>, covering over <strong>5.6 miles of streets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We kicked <strong>off dozens of new projects<\/strong>, representing <strong>a $131.6 million investment <\/strong>in vital drinking and wastewater infrastructure and green stormwater tools.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">On Labor Day, we thank Philly&#39;s water workers. Crawling through sewers, helping customers, fixing water mains, taking lab samples on the river: each job is vital to making sure we all have clean water and healthy rivers. Learn about working with us \u27a1water,<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RvfplOffWT\">https:\/\/t.co\/RvfplOffWT<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QYlYGQfT8W\">pic.twitter.com\/QYlYGQfT8W<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Philadelphia Water (@PhillyH2O) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyH2O\/status\/1302939732436029447?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 7, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>We navigated new safety measures; still, public and private sources constructed <strong>nearly 80 green stormwater <\/strong>projects. Our staff of engineers, planners, and more provided essential support for <strong>120+ projects<\/strong> now ready to break ground.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These projects will manage <strong>hundreds of millions of gallons of stormwater runoff<\/strong>, reducing sewer overflows and protecting our rivers as part of the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/water\/sustainability\/greencitycleanwaters\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green City, Clean Waters<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>initiative.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/static\/nelsonplayground-lc-2020-11-10-013-1.jpeg\" style=\"width: 330px; height: 248px;\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/static\/42nd_osage-lc-2020-11-02-014.jpeg\" style=\"width: 330px; height: 248px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><small>Nelson Playground (left) and the 4200 Block of Osage Ave (right) are home to green stormwater infrastructure projects that were completed in 2020. And we did all of this strategically through these tough times to advance our driving goals: protecting our <strong>city&#39;s health and safety.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>It was not easy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our teams\u00a0providing vital services on the street, in the office, and at our plants never stopped reporting to work this year. Like you, we endured daily frustrations brought on by the pandemic while keeping the safety of our customers and workers as our <strong>top priority.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Commissioner Randy E.
