return false;\">crazy<\/a><\/strong>, but we think we can help with their goal of beating that number, and we\u2019ll be leading one of the 38 sites targeting <strong>126\u00a0miles of streambanks<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>10 miles of roadsides<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday, April 13th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout accentblue-bg\">\n<h4>Join PWD and Volunteers April 13<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"black\"><strong>Where:\u00a0<\/strong>The Historic Blue Bell Inn, Phila.\u00a0Pa.\u00a019142 (<a class=\"darkblue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=7303+Woodland+Ave.&#038;rlz=1C1GCEU_enUS820US820&#038;oq=7303+Woodland+Ave.&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j0.271j0j4&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">map\/directions<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li class=\"black\"><strong>When:<\/strong> We\u2019ll start at 9 a.m. sharp and finish around\u00a01\u00a0p.m.<\/li>\n<li class=\"black\"><strong>What you need:<\/strong> We&#39;ll have supplies, including gloves and trash bags, and water coolers for refilling reusable bottles.<\/li>\n<li class=\"black\"><strong>What to wear:<\/strong> Boots or sturdy sneakers and clothes you don\u2019t mind getting\u00a0dirty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h5><a class=\"btn btn-lg btn-primary white bold\" href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/Big-Cobbs-rsvp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register now to join us!<\/a><\/h5>\n<h4>Why Cleaning the Cobbs Counts<\/h4>\n<p>One of <a href=\"https:\/\/pwddev.wpengine.com\/blog\/start-conversation-about-protecting-water-add-wildlife-markers-your-block\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our seven watersheds<\/a>, the Darby-Cobbs and its tributaries flow through parts of Montgomery County, Delaware County and West Philly neighborhoods before emptying into the important tidal wetlands at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/refuge\/john_heinz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge At Tinicum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Home to many species of birds (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyH2O\/status\/955476029098921986\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including bald eagles!<\/a>) fish, amphibians, reptiles and other wetland creatures (<a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/is-there-a-beaver-resurgence-in-philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beavers!<\/a>), the creek and marshland<strong> help to clean our water<\/strong> as it enters the Delaware River.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the ecosystem can&#39;t filter out all the litter and other trash that the Cobbs picks up from communities along its banks, and items like plastic bags and bottles, can harm wildlife and leave an ugly mark on the watershed.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why every volunteer and every piece of trash taken out of Cobbs Creek matters\u2014<strong>with enough people getting together, we can <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/is-there-a-beaver-resurgence-in-philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">literally<\/a> take tons of litter and other junk out of the watershed in a day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If that sounds like a worthwhile way to spend a Saturday morning <strong>and you\u2019re willing to get a little dirty<\/strong>, meet up with our Waterways Restoration Team to join a team of volunteers on April 13 and help spread\u00a0the\u00a0word:<\/p>\n<h5><a class=\"btn btn-lg btn-primary white bold\" fb-waterbar=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/415437172355448\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Invite friends and share our Facebook event page!<\/a><\/h5>\n<h4>Can\u2019t make this one?<\/h4>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/signup-email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sign up for our email and text updates<\/a> to learn about more upcoming PWD events and cleanups.<\/h5>\n<div class=\"embed\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">There are many upcoming events where you can learn more about our water and infrastructure + get involved in protecting local waterways!
