{"id":98,"date":"2019-04-16T12:52:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T16:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/philly-water-bar\/"},"modified":"2025-02-24T12:50:45","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T17:50:45","slug":"philly-water-bar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/water.phila.gov\/blog\/philly-water-bar\/","title":{"rendered":"Philly Water Bar Popping Up in City Hall Courtyard"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v3.2\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"big\">If you cut through <strong>City Hall&#39;s busy Courtyard<\/strong> on <strong>Wednesday, April 24<\/strong>, you&#39;ll be greeted by a pop-up watering hole that is bound to get people talking\u2014and that&#39;s just the point of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/phillyh2o.info\/No-Thirst-Thursdays\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new Philly Water Bar<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pouring nothing but <strong>fresh, cold, and local tap water<\/strong>, the colorful lunchtime Philly Water Bar pop-up\u2014<strong>open from noon to 1 p.m.<\/strong>\u2014launches a campaign that will stretch through the summer and puts a spotlight on an incredible public asset many take for granted or simply don\u2019t appreciate:<strong> Philadelphia\u2019s top-quality drinking water.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspired by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.water-bar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similar project<\/a> pioneered in Minneapolis, <strong>Philly Water Bar<\/strong> is offered by the Philadelphia Water Department, in part, as a response to customer surveys that revealed a large percentage of residents primarily drinking bottled water at home in many communities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed center\" style=\"margin-top: 1em;\">\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PhillyH2O\/posts\/3228017013891212\" data-show-text=\"true\" data-width=\"500\">\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/developers.facebook.com\/PhillyH2O\/posts\/3228017013891212\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\">\n<p>Want to help us spread the word about our new Philly Water Bar pop-up? They get misleading marketing. Some come here as immigrants from places where water often truly isn\u2019t safe. Information highlighted in City Council\u2019s March 2019 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/phila.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=3903968&#038;GUID=FC20939F-EBBC-4558-AEBA-E298E1B82661&#038;Options=ID%7CText%7C&#038;Search=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philly Water Bar and Tap Water Resolution<\/a><\/strong> details the issues Philadelphia faces:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Only 21 percent of Philadelphians who have bachelor&#39;s degrees report drinking bottled water most often at home,<strong> but half of all Philadelphians with a high school diploma or less primarily drink bottled water at home.<\/strong><br \/>\n\t\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Just 18 percent of households making more than $150,000 per year drink bottled water most often at home, <strong>but more than half of households making less than $20,000 a year dedicate grocery money to stocking the fridge with bottled water at home.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe learned that residents\u00a0are buying bottled water for drinking at home at rates that<strong> call for us to reach out in a deeper way.<\/strong> We have a duty to make sure people know the facts,\u201d <span class=\"semibold\">says <strong>Tiffany Ledesma<\/strong>, manager of the Water Department\u2019s Public Engagement team.<\/span> \u201cThe challenge might seem daunting, but the good news is that generations of Philadelphians invested in\u2014and continued to invest in\u2014an amazing water system.
