Whether required by PWD regulations or encouraged through incentives, private property owners recognize the important role they play in reducing pollution in our streams when it rains. They are also setting a higher bar with excellent, cost-effective designs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-ls-fwsection alignwide has-pale-blue-background-color\"><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2024 Stormwater Pioneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-md-font-size\">This year, PWD is recognizing <strong>Awbury Arboretum<\/strong> and the <strong>Philadelphia Federal Credit Union<\/strong> (PFCU). Both institutions have implemented outstanding green stormwater infrastructure projects on their properties. These local establishments represent excellence in retrofitting existing systems to manage stormwater runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center flexwrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center col-12 col-sm-6 is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Philadelphia Federal Credit Union<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was planned as an update to the stormwater management infrastructure at PFCU\u2019s headquarters at 12800 Townsend Road in Northeast Philadelphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Built in the mid-1990s, the original system no longer met PWD\u2019s regulations. PFCU\u2019s retrofit project reconfigured the existing basin \u2014 expanding its original capacity. PFCU\u2019s project allows the basin to manage a greater volume of stormwater. This reduces runoff pollution to nearby Poquessing Creek and City sewers. Construction on the basin was completed in March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Awbury Arboretum&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Awbury Arboretum\u2019s Stormwater Basin project restored the ponds and watercourse on the property\u2019s southwest portion and provided much-needed management of stormwater runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This system diverts combined sewer overflows from polluting the Tacony-Frankford Creek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arboretum\u2019s pond and watercourse are the only existing above-ground portion of the Wingohocking Creek, which was transformed into sewers starting in the late 19th
