The Philadelphia Water Department is hiring! New opportunities have just been posted for entry-level engineering positions. We’re looking for individuals with a passion for public service to join the next wave of talent here at PWD!

Open Positions

Graduate Civil Engineer and Graduate Environmental Engineer are two titles we use to staff a wide variety of work, such as construction, water and sewer design, facility planning and research, hydraulic modeling, green stormwater infrastructure, watershed protection, water/wastewater treatment, and more. As of August 2022, there are dozens of job openings for these positions at the Water Department!

Philadelphia’s Civil Service System

PWD is one of many departments that make up the City of Philadelphia’s municipal government. Our central Office of Human Resources (OHR) oversees the civil service hiring process. Civil service positions may require certain documents for your application, such as a college transcript, or may require you to go through a competitive testing process. Be sure to read through all the requirements listed on the job posting!

What’s Different This Time?

For the first time, these two entry-level engineering positions will be continuously open! Unlike other announcements which usually close after a few weeks, these in-demand positions will remain open for applications on OHR’s website until July of 2023. This is just the latest in a number of steps the City has taken to make the application and hiring process easier and more efficient for the applicant.
