Did you know the Philadelphia Water Department has a doggy mascot? Sounds far-fetched, but it’s true!
The Spokesdog is PWD’s canine champion for clean water, leading campaigns to keep dog poop off the streets and out of our waterways. Because when dog owners don’t scoop the poop, it gets washed into storm drains, rivers, creeks, and streams, where it pollutes our water and hurts our wildlife.
Willow, PWD’s 2025 Spokesdog, surveys her domain
For over a decade, the Water Department has held an annual competition to select a dog to represent Philly’s water.
This year’s competition will be held at the Philadelphia Brewing Company, 2440 Frankford Ave., on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 pm – and we want to see you there!
If you think your dog has what it takes to lead the way to poo-llution-free waters and has the bark to reach the hearts of humans and fellow dogs, enter the competition!
No preregistration is needed, but space may be limited. There will be prizes for everyone who comes, and though costumes for competition participants are not required, they are strongly encouraged!
Even if you don’t bring a dog, you can still show your support for Philly’s dogs and enjoy a fun, family-friendly afternoon at the brewery. Come have a sip and wag a tail, and may the best pup win!
There will be free food and drink (while supplies last), games, laughs, and furry friends! Kids and dogs (of course) are welcome.

Willow makes a friend – who will step into her paw prints this year?
