Are you a local water warrior seeking support on a project?
The 2022 Schuylkill River Restoration Fund (SRRF), a grant program managed by the nonprofit Schuylkill River Greenways and supported by the Philadelphia Water Department and other local watershed stakeholders, is now accepting applications.
This opportunity is open for non-profits, watershed organizations, conservation districts, and county, municipal, and local governments interested in funding for projects that improve, restore, and protect the Schuylkill River watershed.
The SRRF was created to help improve water quality and habitats in three focus areas: Perkiomen Creek, Philadelphia Water Supply, and Source Water Protection. Specifically, SRRF grants are intended to address major sources of pollution, including stormwater runoff, agricultural pollution, and abandoned mine drainage.
In 2006, SRRF was established through a public-private partnership between Exelon Nuclear, the Delaware River Basin Commission, and the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area. PWD joined the effort to help fund projects that affect Philadelphia’s water supply. Since its inception, the program has funded more than $4.6 million and leveraged an additional $5 million for 121 projects along the Schuylkill River.
This year applicants may request between $20,000 and $100,000 for Philadelphia Water Supply and Source Water Protection projects. Applicants working in the Perkiomen Creek Watershed may request between $5,000 and $100,000.
The Schuylkill River Restoration Fund also offers matching grants of up to $4,000 per project to assist with costs for permanent land protection projects within the Schuylkill River watershed.
