To celebrate Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we are featuring several Philadelphia Water Employees throughout the month of May. We asked them to talk about their work with PWD, how their heritage has shaped their life and work, and what AAPI Heritage means to them.

How many years have you been with PWD?
I have been with PWD for 6+ years, and it has been a meaningful journey of growth, learning, and contributing to impactful work.
What is your favorite thing about the work you do with PWD?
What I enjoy most is the opportunity to support people – whether it’s helping employees navigate their careers, solving challenges, or contributing to a positive workplace culture. Being in HR allows me to make a direct impact on both individuals and the organization as a whole.
How do you identify within the Asian-American/Pacific Islander umbrella?
I identify as Asian, with roots in South India. My cultural background has played a significant role in shaping my values, especially around community, faith and service.
How has your heritage shaped the person you are today? Does it shape your work?
My heritage has instilled in me a strong sense of humility, respect for others and the importance of family and faith. It also has shaped how I approach my work – with empathy, integrity, and a desire to serve others well.
Does your family have any cultural traditions or practices that are especially important to you?
Some of the most meaningful traditions in my family are centered around gathering together – whether for celebrations, meals or times of prayer. Those moments crated a strong sense of belonging and identity and they continue to influence how I value relationships and community today.
Who are the role models or mentors that have influenced you or helped guide you?
I’ve been deeply influenced by mentors in both my professional and personal life, including leaders who model integrity and servant leadership. My parents have been a constant source of inspiration, modeling faith, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose.
What does AAPI Heritage Month mean to you?
AAPI Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions within the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. It’s also a meaningful time to reflect on the values and experiences that shape our identities while fostering greater understanding and connection with others.
Favorite AAPI food?
One of my favorites is biryani—it’s a dish that brings together rich flavors and is often shared during special occasions.
