Manayunk Canal Reopening Community Event - You're invited to celebrate!

Overview

Celebrate the re-introduction of fresh water to the Manayunk Canal in over 75 years! Join us to learn about the water quality improvements, speak with local partners for the project, and watch a mussel presentation from PWD Scientists.

The Community event begins at 11 am, with speakers and presentations starting at 11:30 am. Educational tables, activities, and refreshments will be in the lobby and by the Canal.

  • 11:00 am – Event starts
  • 11:30 am–12:30 pm – Presentations in the theater
  • 12:30–2:00 pm – Tabling & refreshments
  • 1:00 pm – Ceremonial ribbon cutting on Lock St Bridge.

A small gate opening ceremony will take place at the nearby site of the Flat Rock Dam.

Flat Rock Dam Betterment Project

The Flat Rock Dam Betterment Project has been underway since Fall 2022 to reconnect the Manayunk Canal with the Schuylkill River. The new intake system will control the flow of water and improve water quality throughout the region.
