Stormwater

To manage stormwater, the Philadelphia Water Department maintains stormwater pipes and inlets to capture rainwater to decrease flooding and combined sewer overflows, and to reduce pollution. Stormwater management is the Water Department’s fastest growing operating cost, with an annual budget of approximately $120 million.

Drinking Water

Our dedicated professionals operate three drinking water facilities, which treat an average of more than 300 million gallons of water a day, ensuring residents and businesses have reliable access to clean, safe drinking water.

Wastewater

Managing Philadelphia’s wastewater includes the upkeep of more than 3,000 miles of sewer pipes carrying waste from homes, businesses and streets to be treated at our Water Pollution Control Plants.
