Members from the Community Design Collaborative (CDC), Philadelphia Water Department (PWD), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gathered together on January 21st to share their expertise around plans for the implementation of green stormwater infrastructure in Philadelphia and other cities across the country.

For the last fifteen years, neighbors cleaned and protected the remaining 6 acres of the Anderson and Woodbrook land not yet touched by development in the Wissahickon. After learning that developers were seeking to build a condominium complex of over twenty five 1,200 square foot houses, neighbors campaigned to save the land.

On Saturday, October 19th, fifteen Spokesdog finalists from two participating neighborhoods (Fitler Square and University City) came out to compete for one crown. After careful consideration of which dog would make the best Spokesdog, judges announced and crowned the winners!

On Thursday October 3rd, TTF teamed up with 7th graders from Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY to mark 150 stormwater drains with stickers that say “No Dumping, Drains to River” to help raise awareness in the surrounding neighborhood about where litter goes when it enters the drain.

Saturday, October 5, Penn State students and volunteers helped restore two green stormwater infrastructure projects – a rain garden and a stormwater bumpout– on Lancaster Avenue.

PWD is happy to announce the next round of Stormwater Management Incentives Program (SMIP) grants. The Water Department works with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) to provide funding to stimulate investment in stormwater best management practices to mitigate the impacts of stormwater runoff.

But the Spokesdog is out to change that! Philly Water’s Best Friend is on a mission to keep our waterways clean by encouraging dog owners to pick up after their pets.

et your votes in! The Spokesdog Competition closes on Thursday, July 31st. Be sure to cast your vote here, up to one vote per hour, until Thursday. The top 15 dogs from both Fitler Square and University City will be nominated to participate in a Community Competition Day! After each day, a Spokesdog will be crowned for their respective neighborhood!
