Start:

Completion:

Estimated Spring 2026

Overview

This two-phase project improves water quality in Northeast Philadelphia. It includes a new water main and upgrades at the water storage tanks.

Project #20650, Phase 1: New Transmission Main
Below the ground, water mains move clean drinking water from treatment plants to all the places that need it like homes and businesses. There are two kinds of water mains: transmission mains and distribution mains.

Transmission mains are the largest. They act like water highways. Transmission mains connect treatment plants to pump stations and storage tanks.
Phase 1 installs 3,800 feet of new transmission mains along Tomlinson Road, between Bustleton Avenue and Greiner Road.

Project #64114, Phase 2: New Tank Connection
Phase 2 adds a new pipe connection from the new transmission main to the water storage tanks. The tanks store water until it is needed and help maintain water pressure. The new connection shortens the time water spends in the tanks. This improves water quality.

Our on-site inspector and engineer are available for any questions during construction. Some residents may experience brief interruptions in water service while work is underway. All dates are subject to change.
