Elmwood Park, West Philadelphia
Woodland Dam Removal & Fish Passage Rock Ramp Installation
Current Phase: Design
Overview
This project is currently on hold.
#40776 Woodland Dam Removal & Fish Ladder will conduct ecological restoration at the Cobbs Creek Woodland Dam near Woodland Ave in Southwest Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Water Department, in partnership with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, has developed plans to partially remove the Woodland Avenue Dam. The project includes lowering the dam structure, installing a series of boulder steps to reconnect stream habitat, and also installing rock structures to support the retaining wall. The project will improve fish passage and water quality. Small remnants of the dam will be left in place, one on each bank, to memorialize the location of the former structure.
