Chestnut Hill, Northwest Philadelphia
Chestnut Hill Booster Pump Station Upgrades
Overview
This two-part project improves drinking water delivery in Chestnut Hill. It includes a full rehabilitation of the Chestnut Hill Pump Station (CHPS) and a new water main under part of Germantown Ave. We are working with John S. Jenks School and local community organizations to include the community throughout the project.
Project #64099, Pump Station Rehabilitation
Pump stations help move water through the system. They also maintain water pressure for customers. They are essential equipment, including pumps, pipes, and electrical systems that keep water flowing across the city.
The Chestnut Hill Pump Station is in a historic building built in 1924. It is located on the 8300 Block of Germantown Ave. The last major upgrades were made in 1957. Since then, the equipment has aged and is reaching the end of its useful life. This project will replace the aging equipment, restore the building, and preserve its historic character.
The work includes removing harmful vegetation that is covering the historic stone facade. It also includes replacing the following:
- Roof
- Gutters
- Doors
- Windows
The upgrades include new pumps, pipes, and electrical equipment. These upgrades modernize the pump station while preserving its historic character.
Project #64115, New Water Main
Below Germantown Ave, water mains carry clean drinking water to all the places that need it, like homes and businesses. The project includes a new water main under part of the 8300 Block of Germantown Ave.
We are working with the John S. Jenks School, the Philadelphia Streets Department, and SEPTA to help reduce the impact on the community. The road closures are being carefully timed to reduce disruption as much as possible.
We are also working with local community organizations including the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, Chestnut Hill Business Improvement District, Chestnut Hill Community Association, and Chestnut Hill Forward.
