Valley Green Run Restoration and Pedestrian Bridge
Overview
The Valley Green Run Restoration and Pedestrian Bridge project finished construction December 2024 and is now available for public use.
This restoration project:
- Rebuilt the Valley Green Run streambank and adjacent footbridge
- Provided erosion control, creating a stable stream channel to reduce the amount of sediment being discharged into Wissahickon Creek
- Restored a riparian buffer through native landscaping
- Built a new 200-foot pedestrian bridge to allow pedestrians to safely enter this popular area of the Wissahickon Valley Park, along with a new observation platform
Friends of the Wissahickon has updated the Valley Green Run Restoration and Pedestrian Bridge Project schedule. Originally estimated for a mid-July 2023 start, the project, which will remediate erosion and create a new walkway, is now projected to begin in Spring 2024. This timeline will allow for optimal construction weather conditions while the permitting review process is completed.
Once construction begins, the FOW expects that Valley Green Road will be closed for a period of about six months. During this time, park visitors will not have access to the park via this road. Valley Green Inn will remain open during normal business hours. Parking for the Inn will be available, via Wises Mill Road off Henry Avenue in Roxborough.
