North Philadelphia Transmission Piping

Current Phase:

Overview

The North Philadelphia Transmission Main project involves installing large, underground pipes that carry treated drinking water over long distances. Transmission mains connect drinking water treatment plants to pump stations, tanks, and neighborhood water systems.

The goal of installing these new treatment mains is to expand how far clean drinking water can reach from Baxter Water Treatment Plant. This creates a more flexible drinking water system.

The new transmission mains will better connect areas usually served by our other two drinking water treatment plants: Belmont and Queen Lane.

Why are we doing this project?

This plan adds new transmission mains to the drinking water system. This helps us deliver water where and when it’s needed. New transmission mains make the system more resilient and ready for the future. This work helps ensure residents across the city receive safe, reliable drinking water every day.
