Commissioner McCarty, West Philly Kids Celebrate 5 Years of Green City, Clean Waters at Green Schoolyard

Philadelphia Water Commissioner Debra A. McCarty joined students and members of the West Philadelphia Coalition for Neighborhood Schools at Henry C. Lea Elementary on May 10 to celebrate five years of Green City, Clean Waters and the completion of a new schoolyard featuring three rain gardens, nearly two dozen new trees, and porous paving and play surfaces.

Cleaner Streets = Cleaner Rivers and Creeks

With more than 900 projects scattered across the city, this Saturday’s Philly Spring Cleanup was the largest ever—and that’s a pretty big deal considering this volunteer-driven event has already been praised as “America’s biggest single-day urban cleanup” for years now.

Written Comments on Rate Change Due April 18!

The final Public Input Hearing for our proposed 2016-2017 rate increase was held at City Hall on April 7, 2016. If you were unable to attend one of the five public hearings, you can still submit comments by contacting the Philadelphia Water, Sewer, and Stormwater Rate Board, an independent board created by voters to set water rates.

Mayor Kenney Names McCarty to Lead Philadelphia Water

Newly elected Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney rang in 2016 by naming Debra A. McCarty as the new Commissioner of the Philadelphia Water Department. McCarty, the first woman to hold the title of Commissioner, was serving as Deputy Commissioner and Director of Operations.
