Hydrant Permit application

Please note that additional information may be needed to fulfill requirements to receive a permit.

Applicant information

Hydrant use information

Hydrants in the center of a block should be denoted by direction and a rough estimate from another reference street.
Examples: “Southeast corner of Thompson & Mascher”; “The hydrant is on the east side of the 300 block of Broad Street, 75 feet from Chestnut”; “In front of 325 S Broad St.”

  1. Drop a pin on a google map at the location of the hydrant you are requesting to be permitted.
Be exact with the pin drop as possible, in many cases there are multiple hydrants in one area.
  2. Screenshot the google map (.jpeg) with surrounding streets visible to provide a reference of the location. Do not send a picture of the hydrant in street view.
  3. Upload the screenshot here.

Wrap-up

Required equipment

If your permit request is approved by PWD, we will provide you with information about approved backflow prevention equipment needed to safely use the hydrant indicated, including backflow prevention equipment and pieces required for a 3/4″ connection to the hydrant.

  • 3/4” back flow preventer
  • Hydrant adapter 3/4” X 4”
  • Standard Hydrant wrench
  • 3/4” shut off valve
  • A few 3/4” X 4” nipples
  • 3/4” garden hose
  • Pipe tape

You will need to provide proof that proper backflow prevention equipment has been acquired. A permit will not be issued without proof of the necessary backflow preventer.

This is not necessary to submit the request, but you will be required to acquire proper backflow prevention equipment before the permit will be issued.
If you already have one, you can upload a date/timestamped digital photo here.
