Green infrastructure map
This map shows green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) project locations in Philadelphia, on both public and private property.
Many of these projects are part of Green City, Clean Waters, which is our plan to reduce pollution from stormwater. These tools help the city act more like nature by slowing down, cleaning, and soaking up rainwater.

Understanding green stormwater infrastructure projects in Philadelphia
GSI is designed, constructed, and maintained in different ways across the city.
- Public projects use PWD capital funds to build GSI on City-owned property and within the public right-of-way, including in sidewalks and streets. PWD focuses public projects in areas where combined sewers could overflow.
- Private projects are built by developers or property owners. GSI is installed as part of development projects to comply with Stormwater Regulations. GSI is also installed as part of retrofit projects that are eligible for stormwater grants or lower stormwater charges.
Individuals and communities can contribute to reducing pollution in our waterways.
- Soak It Up Adoption provides mini-grants to organizations to help maintain neighborhood GSI.
- Rain Check offers free rain barrels and discounted landscaping upgrades that manage stormwater on residential sites.
